The Waltz Annual Oktoberfest (5/7/11)

The Waltz family is sponsoring this blood drive to honor and remember members of their family and community who have received blood transfusions as part of their treatment.

There are many reasons why a person would need lifesaving blood products.

Patients with chronic blood disorders, such as anemia or sickle cell, and
those who have had transplants or heart surgery, need red blood cells.

Plasma is most needed by burn or trauma patients, organ recipients, newborns, or patients with bleeding disorders. Platelets aid in the clotting process to benefit patients who develop bleeding disorders from leukemia, cancer therapy, or open-heart surgery.

The many friends of Nancy Smith; Anna Peterman; Irene Livingston; and Rich, Russell, and Ron Waltz encourage the community to donate blood at this special blood drive in support of the many area patients who receive their care in Pittsburgh-area hospitals.

Nancy is from Medina, Ohio; Ron is from Leechburg; Anna and Rich are from Kiski; and Russell and Irene live in New Kensington Pa.

This drive also offers the opportunity to join the Be The Match RegistryTM, the national registry for bone marrow donors. Joining is easy – simply complete additional paperwork and submit a sample mouth swab.

Central Blood Bank is the not-for-profit organization that supplies the blood products and transfusion related services to approximately 40 hospitals in western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, and eastern Lower Burrel,.
